X is an American punk rock band, formed in Los Angeles, CA, in 1977. Pioneers of the Los Angeles punk scene from where bands like Black Flag, Bad Religion, and Social Distortion would come, the band went through a hiatus period from 1993 to 2004. They released their newest album "Alphabetland" on April 22, 2020.

The members of the band are Exene Cervenka (Vocals), John Doe (Bass & Vocals), Billy Zoom (Guitar), and D.J. Bonebrake (Drums). John Doe has been in many punk bands including The Flesh Eaters, and The Randoms. Exene Cervenka was a Blackette, and in 1982 published the book "Adulterers Anonymous".

The band performed the original version of the song "Los Angeles", heard on Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s as a cover song, off their 1980 debut album, Los Angeles. (EDITOR FACT: The song was originally on the 1979 Compilation E.P. "Yes L.A." by Dangerhouse Records)

Other hits from the band include "White Girl", "Your Phone's Off the Hook, But You're Not", "Beyond And Back" and a cover version of The Doors' "Soul Kitchen". Coincidentally enough, the band is well-associated with The Doors' keyboarder Ray Manzarek, who produced X's first four studio albums.
